Healing Sexism in the Church
This issue of Catholic Update examines the how gender-based discrimination against women has been present throughout human history, even into biblical times. Msgr. Paul V. Garrity discusses how the modern church is working to heal sexism through including women in the Synod on Synodality, and tells readers about things to keep in mind to push back against sexism in the Church.
“By virtue of baptism, women and men have equal dignity as members of the people of God. However, women continue to encounter obstacles in…all the various areas of the Church’s life” (Pope Francis, Final Document, 60, Synod on Synodality, 2024).
Catholicism in Context: This issue of Catholic Update is part of a series that delves into the teachings of the Church as it considers Catholic beliefs, how they developed, and why the Church continues to hold fast to truths that the modern world rejects. Essentially, Catholicism in Context examines what we (as Catholics) believe, and why we believe it.
